Shop for Change has announced its partnership with Shoppers Stop, one of the biggest clothing retailers of India and to kick start this partnership, Shoppers Stop has launched a stunning collection of women’s wear under its exclusive brand STOP, says a press release.   CJDP2SDFXWSB

This new Stop ethnic collection includes kurtis made with Shop for Change Fair Trade certified cotton in six different styles. The kurtis are priced between 799-999 INR, well within reach of Shoppers Stop buyers.

The collection should give a much needed boost to the demand of Fair Trade clothing in India. Seth Petchers, CEO of Shop for Change Fair Trade said “The momentum for fair trade in India has been building and our partnership with Shoppers Stop, one of the retail industry’s trendsetters, takes fair trade to the next level. The presence of fair trade products at Shoppers Stop makes it easier than ever for consumers to shop for change and know that they’re doing their bit to make a difference in the lives of poor farmers.”

The availability of Fair Trade clothing on the racks of big chains like Shoppers Stop would mean that an ethical shopper in India does not have to look far to shop. Besides ethical shoppers, the collection would attract attention of regular customers as well, who look for style while shopping and do not know much about Fair Trade yet.

Talking to Make Cotton Sustainable, Seth Petchers said, “With Shoppers Stop, one of the retail industry’s trend setters coming on board to support Fair Trade, would definitely attract more fashion-forward high-street retailers and designers to use the morally worthier, Fair trade cotton. This is really important ‘because consumers won’t buy something just because it’s made with Fair trade cotton, for them the style comes first and its ethical advantages as a secondary benefit.”

Vinay Bhatia, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Loyalty, Shoppers Stop Ltd. says, ”It’s a matter of great pride and pleasure that Shoppers Stop is the first large-format retailer to join hands with the Shop for Change Fair Trade movement. We have launched an extensive Shop for Change women’s ethnic-wear collection under our popular, exclusive brand STOP. This collection is made entirely from Shop for Change Fair Trade certified cotton. The social implications of using Shop for Change fair trade certified cotton are truly phenomenal. It allows farmers to receive 15% additional income and at the same time makes customers feel good about making a difference. We are already seeing a great response to the Shop for Change collection from our customers.”
