Genevive Edmonds started Little Green Dress in 2008 with a goal to produce clothes that are not just beautiful but sustainable as well. She answers a few questions for Make Cotton sustainable.

How did the Little Green Dress start?

Little green dress started in 2008 for women who want to dress well whilst caring for our planet.
At Little Green Dress, we make quality garments for women, using sustainable fabrics, made in small quantities . We are proud to demonstrate that style and sustainability can coexist. Sustainability requires doing what we do in a way that won’t compromise or prevent future generations from enjoying our beautiful planet.

We choose thoughtfully, utilizing end of run fabrics, vintage finds reclaimed from a previous life  as another garment and natural fibres that do the least damage to the earth during their growth and production.

We choose natural fabrics such as linen, silk, cotton/silk blends, hemp/silk blends, hemp/yak blends, reclaimed Japanese kimono silks and rare vintage fabrics when we can find them and we work closely with home sewers and small workshops to ensure healthy and respectful work practices and fair remuneration for quality workmanship.

How has the response to your collection been so far?

The response to the collection so far has been good, I would like to expose the range internationally & to source fabrics & sell more overseas.

What aspect of slow fashion is most challenging to a sustainable garment producer?

The most challenging aspect of slow fashion is for customers to find me and to understand that Little Green Dress is limited edition. It is about being aware of our environment, taking pleasure in restraint & making a difference by the choices we make.

Do you wish to use organic cotton for your future collections?
