BCI Helps Farmers In Pakistan

The management practices under Better Cotton Initiative(BCI) have helped cotton farmers in Pakistan a lot to grow better and healthier cotton, says a report in  Fibre2fashion.

According to the report, the BCI’s program has helped more than 75,000 farmers in Pakistan who (cultivating cotton on an area of 300,000 hectares) in 2012 to decrease their use of pesticides, fertilizers and water.

“The use of pesticides is reduced by 47 percent, fertilizers by 39 percent and water by 39 percent, which resulted in an 11 percent rise in our farmers’ income as compared to the cultivators who are still sticking to the conventional methods, said BCI Regional Coordinator Dr. Shafiq Ahmad, speaking at a seminar recently.
