Espirit Receives Another R Certificate

espirit organic cottonThe Recycled Collection by Esprit received an R Cert for demonstrating a new era of sustainable fashion innovation, says a news report in fibre2fashion.

The R Cert is a consumer-facing standard that verifies that a brand recycled their own pre-consumer textile waste into their own recycled textile clothing, with a minimum requirement of 20% recycled fibres per garment.

Esprit’s Recycled Collection is Global Recycle Standard certified and each of its garments contains at least 30% recycled content. Espirit is also developing a denim fabric with a 43% recycled content, which amounts to almost double that of our first denim trial.

“The R Cert catalyzes brands to move closer to closed-loop production by recycling their pre-consumer textile waste into their own recycled textile clothes. It is a scalable business solution for the industry’s excessive textile manufacturing waste rates that has demonstrated environmental benefits,” said Christina Dean, Founder of Redress.
